Over Seeding in Salem, Keizer & Turner
The Willamette Valley is one of the biggest grass seed regions in the country, and the same cool-season grasses grown here suit local lawns: perennial ryegrass for sun and wear, fine fescues for shade, and blends of the two for most yards. We choose seed for your light and use.
Overseeding works best after aeration or de-thatching so seed reaches the soil. September and early October are the sweet spot here: warm soil, cooling air and fall rain. Spring seeding also works if it goes down early enough to establish before the dry summer.
What's included
- Seed matched to sun, shade and traffic
- Even spreading across thin and bare areas
- Pairing with aeration or de-thatching

When to schedule it

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to overseed a lawn in Oregon?
Early fall, from about late August through mid-October. Soil is still warm, nights are cooler and rain usually returns in time to help.
How long until I see new grass?
Perennial ryegrass sprouts in about 7 to 10 days in good conditions. Fescues take a bit longer. Plan on a few weeks for the lawn to fill in.
